Open Consultation Process

Shaping the Themes and Format of WSIS Forum 2021


WSIS Forum 2021 will be held from 17-21 May 2021, the Agenda and Programme of the Forum will be built on the basis of the submissions received during the Open Consultation Process (OCP). The Open Consultation process aims at ensuring a participatory and inclusive spirit of the Forum. This process actively engages multistakeholders in the preparatory process to ensure broad ownership and further improvements of the Forum. The Open Consultation Process will include a collection of inputs from regional and national WSIS related events.

Outcomes and Analysis of Open Consultations

The WSIS Secretariat received more than 500 submissions containing proposals on the thematic aspects and innovations on the format of the WSIS Forum 2021, including requests for workshops, exhibition spaces, partnerships, etc.

The agenda and program of the WSIS Forum 2021 are designed in collaboration with the multistakeholder community (governments, civil society, private sector entities, academia and technical community, and international organizations) based on official submissions received during the OCP on the thematic aspects and innovations of the format of the WSIS Forum 2021.

Please note that the agenda and workshops of the WSIS forum includes the engagement of more than 32 United Nations (UN) Agencies, including UN Regional Commissions.

It is important to note that about half of submissions from Western Europe came from the headquarters of Organizations with an international presence.

The Final Brief of the open consultations took place on Monday 19 April 2021, 14:00 to 15:30 CEST. Remote participation facilities were made available for this meeting.

The 2nd Virtual Meeting of the open consultations took place on Monday 1 February 2021, 14:00 to 15:00 CET.


Phase II: 1st Virtual Meeting

6 November 2020

The 1st Virtual Meeting of the open consultations took place on Friday 6 November 2020, 10:10 to 11:10 CET during IGF 2020. Remote participation facilities were made available for this meeting.


Phase I: Virtual Launch of the Open Consultations

9 September 2020

The virtual launch of the open consultations will took place on Wednesday 9 September 2020, 15:00–16:00 CEST. Stakeholders were invited to participate remotely through the remote participation facilities.
